Recruitment

Recruitment refers to the process of enrolling individuals, whether through compulsion, coercion, or voluntary means, into any type of armed force or armed group. Under international law, conscripting or enlisting children under 15 into national armed forces or using them in hostilities is a war crime. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child further prohibits compulsory recruitment and direct participation in armed conflict for persons under 18.
