Combatant

An individual actively engaged in hostilities, authorized to use lethal force, and consequently considered a legitimate military objective. This includes members of armed forces (excluding medical staff and chaplains) or organized groups. Under international humanitarian law, such forces must operate under an internal disciplinary system that ensures adherence to the laws of armed conflict.
