Refugee Law

Refugee law comprises the international, regional, and domestic legal frameworks that define the rights and protections afforded to individuals fleeing persecution. Its foundation is the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, which establish criteria for refugee status and principles such as non-refoulement. The UN agency responsible for overseeing refugee protection and seeking durable solutions operates under a mandate from the UN General Assembly.
