Protection
Protection refers to all measures designed to ensure full respect for individuals’ rights under human rights, refugee, and international humanitarian law. It involves fostering an environment that upholds human dignity, preventing or mitigating the immediate impacts of abuse, and restoring dignified living conditions through reparations, restitution, and rehabilitation. In armed conflicts, protection encompasses structures and policies by states, the UN, and humanitarian actors to shield vulnerable populations from conflict effects, from reducing civilian casualties to promoting rule of law and security.
