Statism
Statism is the principle that states are the primary and most significant actors in international relations, emphasizing state sovereignty and interests over non-state entities. This concept is central to realist theory, which views the international system as state-centric, contrasting with liberal perspectives that recognize the influence of non-state actors. Powerful states often seek to maintain the existing international order, known as the status quo, which can contribute to global stability when many powers share this goal.
