Recognition

Recognition is the formal acknowledgment by a state or international actor that a certain entity, situation, or claim possesses legal and legitimate standing under international law. In international relations, it is most commonly applied to the acceptance of a political entity as a sovereign state, conferring upon it rights and obligations within the international community.
