Reconciliation

Reconciliation is a long-term process in conflict resolution and peacebuilding that fosters confidence, coexistence, and healing in divided societies. It involves five interconnected strands: creating a shared vision of a fair and interdependent society; acknowledging and addressing past injustices; building positive relationships; achieving cultural and attitudinal shifts; and implementing social, economic, and political changes. While primarily driven by communities, reconciliation may require international support when local actors are unable or unwilling to initiate it.
