Displacement

The forced or voluntary movement of people from their homes due to violent conflict, severe human rights abuses, or other traumatic events, including the threat of such occurrences. Those who remain within their country’s borders are internally displaced persons, while those who cross an international border due to a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group, or to escape conflict in regions covered by relevant regional instruments, are refugees.
