North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO)

NATO is a military alliance established by the 1949 North Atlantic Treaty, based on the principle of collective defense where an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all. Post-Cold War, it has expanded into former Soviet states and engaged in humanitarian missions and UN-mandated operations, such as the 2011 Libya no-fly zone.
