Peacebuilding involves coordinated political, developmental, humanitarian, and human rights initiatives designed to prevent the onset, resurgence, or prolongation of armed conflict. It requires both immediate and sustained efforts to establish resilient institutions and processes that advance sustainable development, reduce poverty and inequality, ensure transparent and accountable governance, uphold democratic principles, protect human rights, strengthen the rule of law, and foster a culture of peace and non-violence.
