Billiard ball model

The billiard ball model is a realist metaphor in international relations where states are viewed as self-contained, unitary actors. It assumes that domestic affairs are separate from foreign policy, and interactions between states are based on rational calculations of power and interest. This contrasts with liberal perspectives, which see international relations as a complex web of interconnected actors and influences.
