Asylum

Asylum is the protection granted by a state to individuals from another country who have fled persecution or serious danger. Those granted asylum may be recognized as refugees. An asylum-seeker is a person who has left their home country and applied for refugee status in another country, but whose claim has not yet been finally decided. Asylum-seekers are generally allowed to stay in the host country until their case is resolved and must be treated according to fundamental human rights standards.
