About
The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) is a humanitarian organization that operates as part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and ensure respect for the dignity of all people, particularly during armed conflicts and emergencies. URCS is guided by the fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
In Ukraine, URCS implements a wide range of programs including emergency medical services, first aid training, psychosocial support, shelter assistance, cash and voucher assistance, water and sanitation projects, and support for vulnerable groups such as internally displaced persons, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The organization operates through a network of regional branches across all oblasts of Ukraine, ensuring a nationwide presence and rapid response capacity.
Since the escalation of the conflict in 2022, URCS has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response, providing life-saving assistance to millions of people affected by the war. This includes distributing food, hygiene kits, and shelter materials, operating evacuation trains and buses, supporting hospitals with medical supplies, and offering psychological first aid. URCS has reached over 12 million people with various forms of aid, mobilizing thousands of volunteers and staff across the country.
