About

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organization that protects the rights of people forced to flee. Founded in 1946, NRC works in over 30 countries, providing emergency relief, shelter, education, food security, and legal assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host communities. NRC’s mandate is to promote and protect the rights of displaced populations, ensuring they receive the assistance and protection they need.

In Ukraine, NRC has been operational since 2014, initially responding to the conflict in the east. Following the full-scale invasion in February 2022, NRC rapidly scaled up its operations across the country. NRC’s programs in Ukraine include shelter repair and winterization, education in emergencies, protection monitoring and legal aid, food security and livelihoods support, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. NRC also operates a logistics hub to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Since 2022, NRC has reached over 1.5 million people in Ukraine with critical assistance. In 2023, NRC provided shelter support to more than 100,000 individuals, distributed food and cash assistance to over 200,000 people, and offered legal counselling to thousands. NRC continues to adapt its response to the evolving needs, focusing on the most vulnerable populations, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those in hard-to-reach areas near the frontlines.
