HIA

Organization: Hungarian Interchurch Aid

About

Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) is a humanitarian organization founded in 1991 by Hungarian churches to provide relief and development assistance worldwide. Its mission is to alleviate poverty, respond to emergencies, and support sustainable development, guided by Christian values of compassion and solidarity.

In Ukraine, HIA has been active since 2014, initially responding to the conflict in the east. Following the full-scale invasion in 2022, HIA scaled up operations, providing emergency shelter, food, cash assistance, and psychosocial support to conflict-affected populations. HIA works through local partners and its own teams, focusing on hard-to-reach areas.

Since 2022, HIA has reached over 500,000 people with multi-sectoral aid, including winterization kits, food parcels, and protection services. HIA continues to adapt its response to the evolving needs, emphasizing resilience and recovery for vulnerable communities.
