About

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. Founded in 1943, CRS works in over 100 countries to assist the poor and vulnerable, providing emergency relief and fostering long-term development. Guided by Catholic social teaching, CRS serves people based on need, regardless of race, religion, or nationality.

In Ukraine, CRS has been active since 2014, initially supporting conflict-affected populations in the east. Following the escalation of war in February 2022, CRS rapidly scaled up its operations. Programs include emergency food and cash assistance, shelter repairs, winterization, protection services for vulnerable groups, and support for health facilities. CRS works through local partners to reach communities in frontline areas and among internally displaced persons.

Since 2022, CRS has reached over 1 million people in Ukraine with critical aid. In 2023, CRS provided multi-purpose cash assistance to more than 200,000 households, distributed food and hygiene kits, and supported shelter repairs for thousands of families. CRS continues to adapt its response to meet evolving needs, including winterization and psychosocial support.
