CARITAS
Organization: Caritas Internationalis
About
Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of over 160 Catholic relief, development, and social service organizations operating in more than 200 countries and territories. Its global mission is to serve the poor, promote charity and justice, and respond to humanitarian emergencies worldwide, guided by Catholic social teaching.
In Ukraine, Caritas has been active since 2014, providing humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected populations in the east. Its programs include emergency shelter, food and cash assistance, psychosocial support, health services, water and sanitation, and livelihood support. Caritas operates through two member organizations: Caritas Ukraine and Caritas-Spes Ukraine, with a network of local offices across the country.
Since the escalation of the conflict in February 2022, Caritas has scaled up its response to reach millions of people with life-saving aid. It has provided emergency shelter, hot meals, hygiene kits, medical supplies, and cash assistance to internally displaced persons and vulnerable communities. Caritas also supports long-term recovery and social cohesion initiatives, reaching over 1.5 million people in 2023 alone.
