Offensive Realism

Offensive realism is a theory in international relations positing that the anarchic structure of the international system compels states to maximize their power and pursue hegemony as the only reliable means of ensuring their survival. It argues that uncertainty about others’ intentions and the constant threat of attack drive states to adopt aggressive, expansionist policies to dominate the system.
