Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

Individuals or groups compelled to flee their homes or places of usual residence, primarily to escape the impacts of armed conflict, widespread violence, human rights abuses, or natural or human-caused disasters, yet remain within their country’s borders. A set of 30 voluntary principles, grounded in refugee law, human rights law, and international humanitarian law, outlines norms for safeguarding, aiding, and finding durable solutions for these displaced populations.
