Mine Action
Mine action encompasses a range of activities designed to mitigate the social, economic, and environmental harm caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO). Its primary goals are to eliminate the threat of these devices so that communities can live safely and pursue normal social, economic, health, and development activities without fear. This includes five key components: risk education to raise awareness and promote safe behavior; survey, mapping, marking, and clearance of contaminated areas; assistance to victims, covering rehabilitation and reintegration; destruction of stockpiled mines; and advocacy to stigmatize the use of landmines and support a comprehensive ban on antipersonnel mines.
